Newfoundlanders will use any excuse for a get together, and traditionally "The Wake" was not always a morbid affair, especially if the deceased was not Mr. Popularity. The old pine box is on its way out too, and various visitors have their opinions, not only on the dearly departed, but also on the direction the whole affair has taken. Among the colourful characters are two scalleywags whose antics during the "stopping up" with the corpse provide great fun for them until they are visited by a long lost relative of the deceased. A tale of pranksters, ship wrecks, fairies and foolishness - all make for great entertainment.
